Student answer (Band 6.0)

In majority of nations, individuals are now having a longer lifespan compared to how it was previously.A group of individuals hold onto the opinion that an older population is problematic for the governments. While some think thhere are advantages if the community has more elderly people.

The advantages of having and older population outweighs the disadvantages in various ways.First of all, people will be vigilant basing on the fact that a majority of the aged are so vulnerable. In this way, society will put systems in place to cater for this criteria of persons, such as improved roads, social amenities and also equipments catering for them.Moreso, everyone will be on the lookout for their care.

They say old is gold.Older members are known for their being rich of wisdom from the experienced most of them have had with life.Through this they can serve as a source of guidance to the younger members of the society through offering advice on various aspects of life.Amongst these population are elites and specialists in various spheres such as health, technology and even politics. In developed countries such as America and Canada old people are seen as volunteers in the health sector hence an important part of giving back to the society and thus making the world a better place and also acting as a good example to the younger generation.

Moreover in as much as having more of the older generation has benefits,it also has it's fair share of disadavantages. One being, caring the older population can be tiresome, time consuming and even draining to the primary caregivers at home considering care homes cannot be afforded by everyone.

In conclusion,an advanced generation of individuals are of great benefit to the society and to the economy though on the other hand there are disadavantages of the same.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear overall view: the benefits of an older population outweigh the disadvantages. The points about older people sharing wisdom, contributing specialist knowledge, and volunteering are relevant, as is the burden on family caregivers. However, the advantages are developed more fully than the disadvantages, and the claim that older people prompt better roads and social amenities is not clearly explained. The conclusion repeats your position but does not weigh the two sides in detail. To strengthen the response, explain how the examples benefit society and the economy, and develop the costs to governments—such as pensions or healthcare—before making a more explicit comparison of their importance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting benefits and a disadvantage, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from social provision to older people’s experience and then to caregiving demands. Linking phrases such as “First of all,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help signal this progression. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “In this way” does not make the link between older people’s vulnerability and improved roads sufficiently clear, while “They say old is gold” shifts abruptly into the next point. The benefits paragraph also combines wisdom, professional expertise, volunteering, and role modelling. Grouping related ideas and using clearer references and transitions would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “vulnerable,” “social amenities,” “source of guidance,” and “primary caregivers.” These choices help communicate ideas about ageing and social contribution. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “having and older population,” “rich of wisdom,” and “the experienced most of them have had with life.” There are also spelling errors, including “thhere,” “equipments,” and “disadavantages,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Some wording is vague, for example “this criteria of persons.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling and word forms; this will make your ideas clearer without requiring more complicated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “though” and “considering,” so there is some variety in structure. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “The advantages … outweighs” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “an older population … outweighs” would also need careful agreement if used as the subject. Articles and sentence construction are sometimes inaccurate, as in “In majority of nations” and “One being, caring the older population can be tiresome.” Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and full stops and several run-on sentences. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and clause boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
