Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The life expectancy rate of individuals in a country directly or indirectly affects other section of the society. Therefore a population with more aging individuals than younger ones has its advantages and disadvantages. Some of the advantages are the wealth of experiences the older ones bring to the society, the preservation of culture and heritage of the people, and provision of domestic assistance in some cases. The pressure on healthcare, economic strain of pension and gratuities and reduced labour force are the disadvantages.
Undoubtedly, older adults are richer in experinces by reason of having spent time in different sectors during years of active service. They can therefore offer counsel on how to run industries to the younger generation to drive growth and development of those sectors.
Another area of importance is how the older ones preserve culture, customs and traditions in the society by passing down practices to the younger generations. This helps to foster continuity and prevent cultures from going into extinction.
The aging population also in some home settings offer domestic assistance. For example, by taking care of the children and helping out with othe house chores, this allows the ones of working age go out and work efficiently for more income and to advance their careers.
Nevertheless, the disadvanages are quite enormous, chief of which is the strain on healthacare. Old age comes with several age related diseases, this mounts pressure on the health care supply for them thereby reducing government funding for other areas that drive economic development.
The second reason is the money paid as pension and gratuities to this aging population. This has as much crippling effect on the economy as the first reason because it diverts resources that should further wealth creaton to aged aduts who no longer work. this situation of not being in the labour force fprms the third disadvantage as tge number of the working population becomes greatly reduced firther crippling the economy.
in conclusion, while there is a great n eed for the ekderly in a population, the ripple effects on the economy amd healthcare also need to be checked as these are major pillars to the growth of any nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both sides of the question with relevant points, including older people’s experience and cultural role, alongside healthcare costs, pensions and a smaller workforce. However, the response does not clearly answer the key question of how far the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The conclusion says the economic and healthcare effects “need to be checked,” but does not state which side is stronger. Some benefits, especially domestic help, are explained with an example, while other points—such as how older people’s experience benefits society—remain general. To strengthen the response, state your position clearly in the introduction and conclusion, then compare the significance of the benefits and costs rather than listing them separately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Another area of importance,” “Nevertheless,” and “The second reason” help readers follow the discussion, and each paragraph has a recognisable focus. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the next level through logical progression. However, the links can feel mechanical, and the final disadvantages paragraph combines pensions and reduced labour supply in a long, difficult-to-follow sequence. The conclusion also does not resolve the comparison set up by the task. Use clearer links between cause and consequence, and give each main idea a more distinct development.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “life expectancy,” “preservation of culture and heritage,” “age-related diseases,” and “labour force.” These choices allow you to discuss both social and economic effects, and some less common expressions are attempted. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “richer in experiences,” “health care supply,” and “wealth creaton.” There are also spelling errors, including “experinces,” “disadvanages,” and “ekderly,” which reduce the polish of the response even though the meaning is generally recoverable. Aim for more natural collocations and proofread carefully; precise phrasing will make your arguments sound more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “by reason of” and “while,” and most ideas remain understandable. However, some grammatical errors and punctuation problems make parts of the response less controlled. For example, “Old age comes with several age related diseases, this mounts pressure” joins two independent clauses with a comma; use a full stop or a conjunction. In “this allows the ones of working age go out,” the verb pattern needs “to go,” while “the aging population … offer” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The final paragraph also contains inconsistent capitalisation and sentence boundaries. Review agreement, verb patterns, and punctuation, then check each sentence for a complete and correctly joined structure.
