Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is agrgued among people that older population are creating problems for the government and others argue that there are benefits in the society for having older people. In my opinion having older people are more beneficial that problem.

It is seen that the more the older generation, the more pressure on the government. As many of the older people are unable to work and suffer various health issues, it becomes the responsibility of the government to look after them. Governmrnt need to give them pension to survive. They will also need medical fascilities and sometimes shelter homes as well. Our government is already burdened with so much tasks that taking extra care for older generations becomes a load .

On the otherhand, older people are like a guardian to our society. They have life experiences that they can share with us. They can provide valuable advice and guide us in difficult times. Older people who are grandparents plays a vital role in the life of their grandchildren. They love them dearly and can spend quality time with them when their parents are busy. They might not be able to provide finanacial support to us but, the mental support they can provide is pivotal. Given their age appropriate work, they can even earn for themselves.

In conclusion, having an older person in your life or in the society is like a blessing. Even though it burdens the government it can be reduced by applicating several policies or themes. Older people can be rehabilitated to works suitable for them as well. They should be cherished rather than thinking of them as a burden.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear view: older people are “more beneficial” despite the pressure they place on government. The disadvantages paragraph gives relevant examples, including pensions, healthcare and shelter, while the benefits paragraph explains their guidance and support for grandchildren. However, the comparison is not fully developed: the conclusion says the burden can be reduced through policies, but does not explain how, and the claim that older people can “earn for themselves” is not supported with a specific example. To strengthen the response, explain why the social benefits outweigh the public costs and develop one or two practical measures, such as flexible work or community care, to support that judgement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for disadvantages and advantages, and a conclusion. The progression from government costs to older people’s contributions is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of the argument. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The opening sentence of the second body paragraph shifts abruptly from costs to benefits, and “Even though it burdens the government it can be reduced” has an unclear reference to what “it” means. Improve cohesion by linking each paragraph’s main point explicitly to your position and using clear references, for example, “These costs can be eased through…”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “pressure,” “valuable advice,” “financial support,” and “mental support.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some phrases show an attempt to express more than basic points. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural collocations are noticeable, such as “fascilities,” “finanacial,” “burdened with so much tasks,” and “rehabilitated to works.” “Applicating several policies or themes” is also unclear and weakens the conclusion. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “public expenditure,” “care services,” and “suitable employment” would help express the argument more clearly and appropriately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including the conditional-style clause “As many of the older people are unable to work…” and the concession “Even though it burdens the government…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “older population are” needs a singular or plural form used consistently, and “Older people who are grandparents plays” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “having older people are more beneficial,” the gerund phrase should take a singular verb, while “the more the older generation, the more pressure” needs a clearer grammatical structure. Review agreement and sentence patterns, then proofread punctuation and spacing, especially around full stops and commas.
