Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries, individuals are now living longer than ever before. Some people belives that elderly people creates problem for governments while others argue that elder people are benefical to the society. I strong beleive that elder people are vital as they give advices for the betterment of the society. Having elder peoples in our lives outweigh the disadvantages.

Many people belives that aged people creates the problem for government as in many societies, the pension which is given to elders are funded by government after retirement. As in china and korea, the population of elderly is significant as compared to other countries. The government is giving different allownaces. For Instance, USA gives 25 percent monthly allowance to elders to meet their needs.

While elders are key factor in society as they give advices because they have spend most of their lives doing jobs and have dominent social circle. They teach us about life experience and gives best supervison. For instance, if an adult is facing problem in workplace, the best supervision will be given to him by his father or grandfather because of their life experiences.

In my opinion, I strong believe that elders are benefical to the society as they teach us to find the solution in certain circumstances and guide us in every aspect.

In conclusion, some people thinks that they are causing problems for government while in my prespective they are essential in our lives and this outweighs the disadavantages about having them in society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear overall view that the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, and you address both sides by mentioning government-funded pensions and the guidance older people can offer. However, the discussion is only partial: the disadvantages are represented mainly by pension costs, while the benefits rely largely on family advice, with little explanation of wider social contributions or how these benefits compare with the costs. The examples about China, Korea and a US allowance are brief and not clearly connected to the argument. The response contains 240 words, so it is 10 words below the 250-word minimum; the nine words copied from the prompt are not counted. Develop and support each main point more fully, and make the comparison explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on disadvantages and advantages, a stated opinion, and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify your main position. However, progression is limited because the opinion that older people are beneficial is repeated in the introduction, the fourth paragraph and the conclusion without adding much new reasoning. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “While elders are key factor,” which does not smoothly connect the contrast to the previous paragraph. The pension example also appears without a clear explanation of how it supports the point. Give each paragraph a distinct purpose, use transitions that express the relationship between ideas accurately, and connect examples directly to the claim they illustrate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “pension,” “retirement,” “allowances,” “life experience” and “supervision.” These choices make the general subject understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors are noticeable, sometimes making the meaning less clear. For example, “elder people” and “elderly people” are used inconsistently, “give advices” is not a natural collocation, and “domin ent social circle” appears to be an inaccurate choice for the intended idea. Spelling errors such as “belives,” “benefical” and “prespective” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of topic vocabulary and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with reasons, for example, “Many people belives that aged people creates the problem for government as…” This shows an effort to connect ideas, but the range of sentence structures remains limited, and errors occur frequently. Subject–verb agreement is a recurring issue: “people belives,” “people creates” and “elders … gives” should use plural verb forms. There are also problems with articles, plurals and sentence construction, as in “Having elder peoples in our lives outweigh the disadvantages” and “the pension … are funded.” These errors can make the reader pause, even though the main message is usually recoverable. Practise accurate basic clauses first, then add complex structures while checking agreement and singular/plural forms.
