Student answer (Band 7.0)

A growing number of people believe that children have to take participation in group activities during their leisure time as per their parents opinion. Whereas others argue that independent play is equally important for them. Therefore, I partially agree with the given statements, as group tasks allow them to develop essential skills, however spending time alone foster them to evaluate their mistakes and improve their hobbies.

On the one side, nowadays a majority of parents encourage their children to participate in organised activities and valuable opportunities to develop important skills. Also, taking part in a sports teams, music clubs or dance classes offer them chance to meet new friends and build new friendships. For instance, working in a football team teach them the importance of good communication and teamwork skills, also foster them to enhance their critical thinking capacity and problem-solving skills in order to win competition. Consequently, team working play a crucial role for their overall growth and professional career .

On the other hand, allowing children to occupy themselves provide them freedom to spend time for their interests or hobbies. For instance, spending leisure time for creative activities like painting access them space to express their creative ideas on paper. Additionally, without any disturbance they can better focus on their desire work instead of other person's interference. Consequently, it will improve their imagination power, concentration and provide them relaxing vibes. Whereas, group activities in certain situation maybe makes them reliant on other person while taking decision and increase the chance of distractions during particular task.

In conclusion, organised group activities during free time promote them to build essential skills like teamworking, leadership and critical thinking for their overall development. However, independent play foster them to inculcate higher concentration and relaxing time for their refreshment. Overall, a balanced approach would be better for the children's bright career and in order to improve their fitness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal position. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the benefits of teamwork for professional growth and the value of independent play for creativity. However, some points could be extended further to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on how group activities might lead to reliance on others is a good point but is slightly underdeveloped. Overall, the task is fully addressed, and the position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one side', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing and flow, such as the awkward phrasing in the introduction. Despite these minor issues, the overall structure is coherent and effective.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'inculcate' and 'critical thinking'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'take participation' (should be 'participate'), 'access them space' (should be 'provide them with space'), and 'desire work' (should be 'desired work'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'team working play', 'activities... makes them') and preposition usage. Additionally, some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'promote them to build' and 'foster them to evaluate'. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
