Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response fails to address the prompt entirely. The task asks for a discussion on children's free time activities (organised groups vs. independent play), but the student writes about television programmes. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 250-word minimum, consisting of only 129 words, and includes placeholders like '(explanation)' and '(relevant example)' rather than actual content. Because the essay is off-topic and incomplete, it does not meet the requirements for a passing band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

While the student uses some structural markers like 'To begin with' and 'In conclusion', the essay lacks logical progression because the content is largely absent. The use of placeholders instead of developed arguments makes the text incoherent. Paragraphing is attempted, but the content within those paragraphs is not developed, leading to a disjointed and fragmented structure that fails to guide the reader through a coherent argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'maily' instead of 'mainly' and 'totaly' instead of 'totally'. The student relies on basic, generic language and fails to demonstrate the range of vocabulary required for an IELTS essay. The use of placeholders further restricts the lexical range, as the student does not provide the necessary content to showcase their ability to use topic-specific or sophisticated language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, such as 'some people believe to improve child's development they need to watch' and 'are usually isolated a d more often harder to understand'. Sentence structures are basic and often incorrectly formed. The lack of complete, error-free sentences makes it difficult to assess a range of structures. Punctuation and syntax are inconsistent, and the overall control of grammar is weak, which frequently impedes the clarity of the intended message.
