Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely argued that parents should encourage their children to participate in group activities in their leisure time while other says that kids should know how to occupy themselves. In this essay I will discuss the both views before presenting my own opinion.

To begin with, parents should motivate their kid to join the group activities that are organized by schools or society rather than sitting idle at home as it will help them to enhance the skills such as communication, team work. Sometimes children are introverted and are not aware of these group activities happening if parents make them aware of these activities and encourage them to join they will gain leadership qualities . Moreover they will be well mannered confident and learn time management as well. For example parents motivates their child to join a badminton team, dance classes or scouts.

On the other hand, If the teenagers learn how to make themselves busy they will become more responsible and self reliant. Moreover they are well aware about what to do in their life and how to tackle the responsibilities. Further, children will discover their own interest without depending on others and will be more aware about their own self. They will be more creative, active and able to manage their time.

To summarize , we can say that it is important for children to know how to occupy themselves as it helps them to become more responsible and creative. Moreover sometimes parents are not aware of their child's inner talent so it will be better if child discover himself and spend some time on his own.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, although the opinion is somewhat underdeveloped in the conclusion. While the essay covers the prompt, the ideas are presented in a fairly generic way. For instance, the benefits of group activities (communication, teamwork) and independent play (responsibility, creativity) are mentioned, but they lack specific, illustrative examples that would elevate the response. To improve, ensure that your personal opinion is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the body paragraphs, rather than just appearing as a summary in the final paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of group activities and the specific examples provided is slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'introverted', 'self-reliant', and 'inner talent'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of repetitive phrasing, such as the repeated use of 'well aware' and 'more'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('other says', 'parents motivates') and missing articles ('the both views', 'if child discover'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures, such as using conditional clauses or relative clauses more accurately, would also help in achieving a higher score.
