Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, although the conclusion is incomplete, which leaves the final position slightly underdeveloped. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of teamwork for communication and the value of solitude for critical thinking. However, the development of these points is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive vocabulary. To reach a higher band, ensure that all paragraphs, including the conclusion, are fully finished and that the personal opinion is clearly stated and consistently maintained throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction and separate sections for each viewpoint. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the flip side', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'compromise things with counterparts arguments'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that cohesive devices are used more naturally would enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation. For example, 'juveniles' is used inappropriately to refer to children, and 'offsprings' is grammatically incorrect (the plural of offspring is offspring). Phrases like 'compromise things with counterparts arguments' are confusing and lack precision. While the student attempts to use more academic vocabulary, the lack of control over these terms often leads to awkward expressions. Focusing on learning common collocations and using words in their correct context will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('could fosters', 'it can seen children can acquire') and incorrect word forms ('live a independently'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly verb forms and article usage, before attempting more complex structures.
