Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that parents should encourage their kids to take participate in a curriculum activities in their free times. On the other hand, people believe that children should learn by themselves. I will discuss both point of views and then give my own point of view.

To begin with, people believe that children’s spend their free time on outdoor activities. Because it is beneficial for their physical health. For example, if they play outside and do activities, it helps to boost their stamina. Moreover, it also helps to build their confidence and communication skills. For example, when they go outsides, they will get a chance to communicate with others.

However, on the other side people believe that children’s spend time with themselves. Because they can increase their think power. For example, if they utilize their time with themselves, they can know about their own self and think about their dreams. The other reason is that spending quality time with themselves to increase their will power. They can handle hurdles by own. In addition, they will learn how to face challenges without any assistance. Therefore, children should use their free time to look their hidden qualities.

In conclusion, I believe that both points have their own benefits. Although, spending time with themselves. It helps to improve their qualities, outdoor activities helps to promote their ability to perform in a public and learn communication skills to make their points clear in front of everyone without any hesitation. Children should balance their time to spend with themselves and for outside activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of 'think power' and 'will power' is vague and lacks specific, well-developed examples. The points regarding physical health and communication skills are relevant but could be expanded with more depth to reach a higher band. The position is consistent, but the supporting arguments remain at a surface level, which prevents a more comprehensive exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'However' are used to link sentences. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph where the sentence structure is fragmented (e.g., 'Although, spending time with themselves. It helps to...'). Referencing is generally clear, but the overall cohesion could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are fully connected rather than standing as isolated statements.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'activities', 'time', and 'themselves'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural or inaccurate, such as 'think power' instead of 'critical thinking' or 'cognitive development', and 'look their hidden qualities' instead of 'discover their hidden potential'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the student relies on simple, repetitive phrasing throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'children’s spend', 'activities helps'), incorrect preposition usage, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Although, spending time with themselves.'). While the student attempts complex sentences, these are often where the errors occur. Punctuation is generally functional, but the control over sentence boundaries needs improvement to ensure that ideas are expressed with greater grammatical accuracy.
