Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals think that parents should encourage their children to take part in organised group in their free time, while others say that it is essential for children to learn how to occupy themselves on their own. This essay will discuss both views and i believe they both are important to children's overall development. However, organised in group activity is more important because it help children develop social and communication skills

Children who take part in group activities or play a sports , they learn how to cooperate, communicate and share ideas with others. For example, children who often play football, cricket or engage in social group activities have a good social and communications skills. Parents should allow children to take part in organised group activities.

Therefore, group activity helps children to become more responsible and sincere.

On the other hand, parents should also give children their alone time. spending time alone make children more independent and creative. Children who spend time alone, they learn their own responsibilities and find their interest. For instance, read books and solves puzzles alone without depending on others make children more independent and find their hobbies. However, parents should also give time alone to their children because it makes children more independent and creative.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that group activities help with social skills and solitary time fosters independence, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the points about 'responsibility' and 'creativity' are stated but not fully explored with detailed examples. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more nuanced explanation of why these activities are beneficial, rather than simply listing them. The response is balanced, but the supporting evidence remains quite general.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'Therefore', and 'On the other hand' to link sentences. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, in the second paragraph, the transition between the benefits of football and the conclusion about 'sincere' children feels abrupt. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'it', 'they') is always clear would help improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'social and communication skills', 'independent', and 'creative'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat words (e.g., 'children', 'activities', 'alone'). To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'children', you could use 'youngsters', 'the youth', or 'offspring'. Additionally, some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'organised in group activity', which should be 'organised group activities'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('it help children', 'spending time alone make children') and article usage ('play a sports'). There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'read books and solves puzzles alone... make children'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed accurately. While these errors do not prevent understanding, they occur frequently enough to limit your score in this criterion.
