Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals believe that parents need to encourage their kids to take participation in group activities in their free time rather than do activities alone while others oppose it for various reasons. However, group activities may be beneficial for children but i believe that self study is more important which I will explain in upcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, there are some reasons responsible why group activities vital for children. First and foremost is, some students are very shy due to which mostly they do not ask any question from teacher during lecture if they have any confusion but they feel very comfortable with their friends so that children can ask any question from their classmates in their free time without any hesitation. Apart from this, they can also work on their skills like team work, communication, leadership and discipline. when children will spend their free time with their friends for achieve their goals when they may improve their skills.

On the other hand, self study is vital for children growth. Firstly, they can do their work with concentration, in another word, mostly students feel uncomfortable when they work in team because they also face a difficulty to work in team. It is very hard for them be focus on project on which they are working. As a result, they always like to do their work alone for give their hundred percent on project. Secondly, children do not need to be depend on others because every decision taken by them so that they are fully responsible for everything. They do not need to be change their motives and direction because of someone else.

To conclude, although there are some merits of group work, I think that self study without help of someone is best because of various reasons like enhance focus and decrease dependance on others.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the argument regarding 'self-study' is slightly repetitive, focusing heavily on the difficulty of working in teams rather than exploring the broader benefits of independent play or self-reliance. While the prompt is addressed, the supporting points lack depth and specific examples from personal experience, which are required for a higher band. The position is consistent, but the explanation of why self-study is 'more important' could be more robustly argued to fully satisfy the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Apart from this', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'there are some reasons responsible why group activities vital'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes choppy. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect collocations, such as 'take participation' (instead of 'participate') and 'self study' (which is more accurately described as 'independent activity' or 'solitary play' in this context). There is also a reliance on basic vocabulary. To achieve a higher score, the student should aim to use more precise, academic vocabulary and demonstrate a better grasp of collocations and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'some reasons responsible why group activities vital' (missing verb), 'when children will spend their free time... when they may improve' (incorrect clause structure), and 'do not need to be depend' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
