Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate regarding, recreational activities. A group of individuals believe that, children should be involved in communities activities such as sports, dance, music to keep themselves active. However, others argue that, children are better know how to keep themselves busy on their own. From my perspective, organized activities are more beneficial for children, although both view have some merits.

Examining the former view, the foremost argument supports would put forward is that, participating in community programmes allows children to broaden their horizons by playing in teams can be helpful to develop skills such as co-opration, unity, competition, learning experiences and so on. For instance, a child who continuously participating in activies organised by communities, gain knowledge about real world life style by experiencing all kind of emotions through playing from team along with this social skills also gets better.

On the other hand, those in favour of latter opinion, have their own arguments. To begin with, they believe that children who knows their interest best can choose activities by their own to spend their leisure time, which can be helpful to know themself better what they like or dislike. While spending alone time is better than wasting energy on the activities do not like keep person demotivated. As they never found that activities is not their interest. For interest, a person who is not good at socializing as well as physical activities may have hidden talent of creating art through their imagination.

To conclude and offer my position, there are convincing arguments both for and against recreational activities. However, I certainly favour the former opinion.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention benefits like 'co-operation' and 'unity', the explanation remains quite general. The second body paragraph is slightly repetitive and lacks a concrete example to support the point about 'hidden talent'. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main idea is supported by a specific, well-explained example rather than just listing concepts. Your position is clear throughout, which is a strength, but the depth of analysis needs to be more consistent to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'On the other hand' and 'To begin with', to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing or punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary commas after 'debate' and 'argue'. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall readability and logical flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'recreational activities' and 'socializing'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'communities activities' instead of 'community activities' and 'know themself better' instead of 'get to know themselves better'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and you rely on basic structures to convey meaning. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to demonstrate greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they are frequently marred by grammatical errors, such as 'a child who continuously participating' (should be 'who continuously participates') and 'those in favour of latter opinion' (missing 'the'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and relative clauses.
