Student answer (Band 6.5)

A few individuals hold a view that kids should be motivated by their parents to join group activities whenever they are free. But, others believe that it is vital for child to learn things independently. In my opinion, kids should take part in group activities which leads to many benefits.

On the one hand, there a various reasons people support group activities for kids. Firstly, doing activities with others helps toddlers to develop different kinds of skills such as, teamwork, discipline, communication and confidence too. These skills would help them in future to have a good position at their workplace. Secondly, they get chance to share their view and also listening to others while discussion activities. This makes the teens good listener, increase attention to detail ability and a good decision maker after understanding the ideas of others.

On the other hand, critics argue that kids should spend time by themselves and learn independently. Things done by children individually would help their minds to work faster which improve their skills of creativity, critical thinking and imagination. This would assist them to create or think unique ideas by themselves. Moreover, they may need to encounter different problems during pending time on their own

which is a kind of test for them to find a solution for those. Eventually, this situation gives them a chance to be a problem solver which is the most important capabitlity that companies looking for nowadays.

In conclusion, working in a group would be benfitial for kids to develop different skills and be a good leader by making decisions. But, spending time on their own also have positive results like improvement in cognitive skills and problem solving.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction. The ideas are relevant, such as the development of social skills in group activities and the fostering of creativity through independent play. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of how group activities lead to 'good positions at the workplace' is a bit generic. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The conclusion is a bit brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented, but the task requirements are generally met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition between the benefits of group activities and the specific skills mentioned could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'this situation' in the third paragraph, which refers back to a broad concept rather than a specific antecedent. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'discipline', 'critical thinking', and 'cognitive skills'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'pending time' (should be 'spending time') and 'capabitlity' (spelling error). You also use 'toddlers' to refer to children in general, which is slightly inaccurate as toddlers are specifically very young children. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher band scores. Expanding your range of collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'there a various reasons' (missing 'are'), 'it is vital for child' (missing 'a'), and 'listening to others while discussion activities' (should be 'discussing'). Additionally, there are subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'spending time on their own also have positive results' (should be 'has'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for articles and subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your accuracy.
