Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is the fundamental duty of the parents to understand their children and their point of view in the life. A few individuals believe that during the free time guardians ought to inspire their children to participate in some activities which is organized by groups, whereas others thinks it is vital for children to have an idea about how to keep busy themselves by their own. I shall discuss both the views and give my opinion in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, there are a plethora of benefits of joining new group activities. Firstly, children can get a chance to meet with the new people and to explore new things. In addition, they can learn few skills like communication and team work, which will help them in their future to get a job easily or to start a business with someone else. Also, taking part in group activities can help children to experience new things, while it is quite difficult possible when they do their things alone.

However, it is important to keep themselves busy as well because in many cases children try new things when they are with someone and because of this there is a chance of getting addicted with some bad habits like taking drugs or involving in crimes. Apart from this, it helps them to be focus on one thing instead of trying few things and doing nothing with them.

To conclude, I believe parents should encourage their children to take part in group activities, they can learn some valuable skills in their early days of life, as well as it can help them to make new relations with others.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of group activities are explained, the argument for independent play is less convincing and slightly confused by the suggestion that solitary time leads to criminal behavior, which is a significant over-generalization. To improve, ensure that your arguments are logical and well-supported with more nuanced examples. The conclusion is brief and could have been used to better summarize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'However' to link your points. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of group activities and the potential risks of solitary time is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'plethora', 'fundamental duty', and 'participate'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'difficult possible' and 'make new relations'. Additionally, the phrasing 'keep busy themselves by their own' is non-standard. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific terms would also be beneficial for achieving a more sophisticated tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'others thinks' (subject-verb agreement), 'get a chance to meet with the new people' (unnecessary article), and 'be focus on' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but some sentences are slightly awkward in their construction. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately without losing clarity.
