Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is ongoing debate on weather parents should encourage their child to involve in organized group activity in their leisure time, whereas other argued that it is crucial for children to learn independently. Although, both the view has their own benefits which I will discuss in upcoming paragraphs and I will give my opinion in second paragraph.

On the one hand, children should take part in group activities such as foot ball, playing cricket and attending drama classes which develop child's growth in their communication skills and socialization. Furthermore, children can become aware about social things such as to meet a new people and get to know each other. Apart from that, playing sports also make physical fitness. For instance, children who play foot ball having good physical strength compare with who do not play.

On the second hand, few parents argued that children should learn independently which is also crucial aspect. It is important for children to read books, drawing and playing developing games in their free time. For example, reading habits can develop imagination of children, which is also helpful to increase in communication skills. Moreover, make children independent, taking responsibilities and aware about the many surrounding things. In my opinion, I would say that both the views are important for children to take part in group activities and also should learn independently because both are helpful to children to enhance their career developments.

In conclusion, both the views are playing important part in children development, Although involve in group activities help children to learn working with team and how to cooperate and independent activity enhance the ability for socialization.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the arguments for independent play are quite brief and rely on simple lists (reading, drawing, playing games) rather than exploring the deeper psychological or developmental benefits. The opinion is stated but lacks a strong, nuanced justification. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and specific, real-world examples that illustrate the 'why' behind your arguments, rather than just listing activities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'On the second hand' (which is not standard English) and 'Although, both the view has...'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother to create a more natural flow. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help elevate your score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'important', and 'things'. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'make physical fitness' (should be 'improve physical fitness') and 'involve in group activities' (should be 'involvement in' or 'participating in'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of more sophisticated or 'less common' vocabulary limits the score. Try to incorporate more precise academic collocations to express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('both the view has'), article usage ('the new people'), and word form errors ('playing cricket... which develop child's growth'). There are also punctuation issues, such as the misuse of commas after 'Although'. While these errors do not prevent communication, they occur frequently enough to keep the score in the 5.5–6.0 range. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article consistency would be highly beneficial.
