Student answer (Band 6.5)

In contemporary society, a considerable number of children are advised to take part in a group activities so that they will learn social skills. However, some people believe that it is also crucial for a child to learn how to occupy himself on his own. Before stating my opinion, this essay will analyze whether involving in a group activities are vital or learning on their own.

A significant number of individuals believe that children should indulge in group activities in their leisure time. A organised group activities enhance their communication skills and teach them how to deal with a variety of individuals. Such activities also beneficial for their social and moral values. They will learn how to respect others, follow the instructions and work in a group. For instance, in Pakistan, during summar holidays a number of institutes organise the summar camp; in addition, children perform a number of activities in a team with other children which is beneficial for their future when they have to work for a team.

On the other hand, another group of people believe that it is crucial for the youth to occupy themsleves so that they learn to find the solutions of their problems on their own. To some extend, it is beneficial for them as they learn to not depend on anyone; moreover, they will learn to survive on their own. It is easy for them to acheive their goals without depending on anyone else. To illustrate, my niece is the sole child and when she moved to abroad for higher education she easily adjusted in the new environment, because she used to live alone and tackle the issues herself.

From my perspective, both aspects are of paramount importance for the youth of the society. If the group activities teach them to survive with a variety of people with different opinions and set their boundries then individual activities teach them to solve their issues themselves. We should encourage our youth to experience both.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and gives a clear overall position: the conclusion says children should experience both group and individual activities. Relevant support is provided, including the summer camp example and your niece’s adjustment to studying abroad. This meets the task well, but the two sides are not developed equally in depth. The group-activity paragraph explains several benefits, while the independent-activity paragraph makes broader claims such as learning to “survive on their own” and achieving goals without support, without explaining these outcomes in detail. The introduction also promises to analyse whether group activities are “vital,” which does not quite capture the balanced discussion required. To strengthen the response, explain more precisely how each type of activity benefits children and connect those explanations directly to your balanced opinion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that states your position. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand,” “For instance,” and “From my perspective” help readers recognise the stages of the argument. Some linking is less smooth or precise, however. The opening sentence of the first body paragraph repeats the idea of group activities without clearly linking it to the promised analysis, and “moreover” in the second body paragraph joins claims that could be explained more logically. The final paragraph summarises both sides effectively, though it could draw the examples together more explicitly. Use referencing and transitions to show how each example supports the specific point being made, rather than relying mainly on familiar signposting phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “communication skills,” “social and moral values,” “adjusted,” and “different opinions.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “paramount importance,” although some choices are inaccurate or unnatural in context. Examples include “indulge in group activities,” “find the solutions of their problems,” and “set their boundaries”; these do not express the intended ideas as naturally as alternatives such as “take part in,” “solve their problems,” and “establish personal boundaries.” Spelling errors such as “summar,” “acheive,” “themse[l]ves,” and “boundries” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully, especially when using less familiar vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts a mix of simple and complex structures, including clauses with “so that,” “when,” and “because,” and most meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with articles, agreement, and verb forms. For example, “a group activities” should use a singular or plural form consistently, “Such activities also beneficial” needs a verb, and “whether involving in a group activities are vital” has an unclear grammatical construction. In “when she moved to abroad,” the preposition is not needed, while “they learn to not depend” would be more natural as “they learn not to depend.” These issues do not generally prevent understanding, but they limit control. Review article use and subject–verb agreement, and proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause.
