Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many people believe that guardians should encourage their juveniles to participate in organised group activities during their free time, while some argue that it is imperative for children to utilise their time themselves. In my opinion, a balanced approach could foster a sense of understanding and mutual co-operation.

On the one hand, encouraging children to get involved in group activities enhances their relationship with peers and provides co-ordination. A number of sports, such as cricket, basketball, soccer or valleyball, requires team strength and this help to nurture children mind to work as a whole. Moreover, it helps to solve the conflicts which plays a valuable role in resolving workplace confusions and misunderstandings.

On the other hand, it is also pivotal for children to learn how to use their free time because this helps them to focus on critical tasks and work independently. In most of the private companies, workers are required to ensure a smooth process without any delays and errors. Being a self-reliant, it could be easier for an individual to rectify the problem at an early stage. Additionally, this approach give individuals to understand and learn from their mistakes.

Based on the aforementioned reasoning, I reiterate my position that a systematic and balanced approach will be the best alternative, because in group activities children learn how to work as a team, whereas occupying free time individually caters exceptional knowledge on how to be a creative and to search strengths and weaknesses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both views and state a clear opinion: a “balanced approach” is best. The two body paragraphs give relevant reasons, including teamwork and peer relationships for group activities, and independence and learning from mistakes when children spend time alone. However, these points are not developed equally or in much detail. For example, the link between resolving conflicts in activities and “workplace confusions” is asserted rather than explained, and the independent-activity paragraph focuses on workers in companies rather than giving a concrete example of how children benefit. Your conclusion restates the position but adds little support. The response is also seven words below the required minimum. Develop each main idea with a specific example and explanation, and ensure the response meets the stated length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “Based on the aforementioned reasoning” make the organisation explicit. This supports a logical discussion of both sides. To strengthen cohesion further, make the links between claims more precise: the move from children resolving conflicts to workplace misunderstandings is abrupt, and the reference to “this approach” in the second body paragraph could be clearer about whether it means independent activities or self-reliance. Some transitions are formulaic, so use pronouns and linking phrases that show the exact relationship between ideas rather than relying mainly on paragraph-opening signals.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “organised group activities,” “self-reliant,” “co-operation,” and “resolve conflicts.” There are also attempts at less common or formal expressions, such as “pivotal” and “aforementioned,” though some choices are inaccurate or unnatural in context. “Juveniles” sounds overly formal for children, “provides co-ordination” does not express the intended benefit clearly, and “workplace confusions” is an awkward collocation. “Valleyball” is misspelled, and “cater exceptional knowledge” is not idiomatic. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision. Prefer natural collocations and check spelling; for example, describe activities as developing coordination and say that independent time helps children discover their strengths.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a contrast clause with “while,” a conditional structure (“if… could”), and a concluding “because” clause. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in agreement, articles, and verb forms. For instance, “A number of sports … requires” should use a plural verb, and “this help” should be “this helps.” In “Being a self-reliant,” the article is not appropriate before the adjective, while “this approach give” needs subject–verb agreement. The final phrase “how to be a creative” also has an incorrect article pattern. Review agreement with plural subjects and the use of articles, and proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause.
