Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often agruged that whether parents should encourage their children to take part in group activites in their leisure time or encourage them to occupy themselves on their own. This essay will delve deeper into both the perspectives and will state why I support the first statement.
The advocates of first phenomenon state that parents should encourage their children to take part in group activites in their free time because it helps them to learn team co-ordination and achieve shared goals. Actively participation by children in activites such as playing football, cricket, soccer can help building strong skills which will help them in shaping their overall development. As they learn co-ordination, problem solving skills, supporting team members, they also play to win the game means they work on achieving shared goal by making strategies to win the competition.
On contrary, some people argue that giving freedom to children to learn how to occupy actively on their own is necessary because it helps to foster creativity. If adults given an opporunity to utilise their free time in their own way they can engage themselves productively which will help their minds to think creatively. Taking an example of a child who is asked to play his or her favourite task, if they choose to use smartphone, they can utilise their time learning skills by using AI tools to solve the problems instead of wasting time on playing games. It indirectly becomes the responsibilty of parents to create a zeal among them to seize the opportunity of using technology as a learning tool.
Taking everything into consideration, although both statements have their own positive sides, I firmly believe that parents should persuade their children to actively participate in organised group activites so that they can earn in-hand practical experience and other skills to develop their overall personality.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and make your position clear: you favour organised group activities. The first body paragraph gives relevant reasons, including teamwork, problem-solving and working towards shared goals, while the second explains how independent time may encourage creativity. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The group-activity argument is supported with several related benefits, whereas the independent-activity discussion relies heavily on a smartphone and AI example, which does not clearly show how children learn to occupy themselves independently. The conclusion restates your preference but adds little synthesis. To strengthen the response, explain the value of independent play more directly and develop a specific example for each view.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. This makes the discussion easy to follow, and phrases such as “On contrary” and “Taking everything into consideration” signal transitions. However, some linking is mechanical, and the progression within paragraphs is occasionally unclear. For example, the move from children choosing a favourite activity to using a smartphone and AI tools needs a clearer explanation of how this represents independent occupation. The phrase “means they work on achieving shared goal” also interrupts the flow of the sentence before it. Use more precise referencing and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “shared goals,” “problem solving skills,” “foster creativity” and “practical experience.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions are attempted. However, spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural collocations are noticeable, as in “agruged,” “activites,” “actively participation,” “occupy actively” and “earn in-hand practical experience.” Some repetition of “activities,” “skills” and “overall” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for instance, use “participation in activities,” “spend time independently” and “gain practical experience.” This would make your vocabulary more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “because” and “although,” and the main meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms, articles and sentence construction. For example, “Actively participation … can help building” should use a noun phrase followed by “can help build,” while “If adults given an opporunity” needs a complete conditional clause, such as “If adults are given an opportunity.” In “As they learn …, they also play to win,” the relationship between the clauses is not fully controlled. Practise checking subject–verb patterns and making each clause complete, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
