Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I am writing this email to inform you that I got different complaints about the reception area and how it can be inclined.
First, most of the complaints are about nobody being in the reception area to receive visitors and guide them about the company's rules and regulations and what the workspace environment is. In addition, the reception area is important because it is the front desk of the company, which always receives the visitors and greets them like family.
Moreover, if anybody wants to meet the manager or head of the company, then they need to come from the reception, which receives the people and shows them the company's achievements, which will increase the company's reputation. Now, you need to find a good receptionist who has good communication skills and experience. As a result, we can make our visitors happy with the help of good services.
I hope you will understand how you can fix this matter.
Yours Obediently,
Rajbir.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why the area is important is a bit repetitive, and the suggestion for improvement is quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details or examples, such as suggesting a specific type of seating, signage, or a digital check-in system. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a manager, although the opening sentence is slightly awkward.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First', 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'As a result' to connect your ideas. While these are functional, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is clear, but the transition between the importance of the reception area and the suggestion for a new receptionist could be smoother. Overall, the organization is sufficient to make your message easy to follow, which is the primary goal for this task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your points clearly. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'workspace environment', 'reputation', and 'communication skills'. However, there are some instances of unnatural word choice, such as 'how it can be inclined' (which is unclear) and 'greets them like family' (which is slightly informal for a professional letter). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and professional terminology. The range of vocabulary is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I got different complaints' (should be 'I have received several complaints') and 'they need to come from the reception' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). There are also minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures and proofread carefully to eliminate basic grammatical slips.
