Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points: describing complaints, explaining the importance of the reception, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The complaints are mentioned (lighting, cleanliness), but the explanation of why the reception is important is quite brief and lacks depth. The tone is also inconsistent; while it is a formal letter, the language used is often informal or grammatically awkward, which affects the professional impact of the suggestions. To improve, you should expand on your ideas with more specific details and ensure the tone remains consistently professional throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is divided into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the abrupt transition 'Complaints.' at the start of the second paragraph. Some sentences are disjointed, making the flow of ideas feel a bit choppy. For instance, the connection between the hotel's location and the complaints is not clearly linked. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') would help create a smoother progression of ideas and improve the overall readability of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally basic and sometimes repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'do the meeting' instead of 'hold a meeting' and 'contampary' (likely meant 'contemporary'). The phrase 'big bad effect' is also quite informal and imprecise. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there are noticeable errors in word formation and usage. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise professional terminology and ensuring that your word choices are appropriate for a formal business context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'my company do the meeting'), article usage (e.g., 'the lighting system'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'yours meeting hall area is very big spaces'). The use of 'yours' instead of 'your' is a recurring error. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of possessive adjectives, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
