Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir

I am writing this letter to give you some suggestion regarding the problem with reception area.

The complaints about the reception have several aspect, as some people have an issue with the space, inadequate place makes it more congested and it gives less area to seating arrangement. Furthermore, there is complaints about the interior which gives obsolete to contemporary times. Other than that, one complaints also concern about the lightings which is dull and not appropriate for people who is elderly and have visual impairement.

Front desk plays a significant role in any organization. It says that first impression is last impression. People can judge entire industry on the bases of reception area. Their perception of company start from the first area which is the reception. So making it more eye catching is more important.

To make it more astonishing and vibrant , it is necessary to make some modification with place and do it in more organised mannner. Starting with the area, in my opinion remove the admin office and give it more space to reception. In addition, painting with vibrant color and huge logo of company can be possess to make more elegant.

I hope this will help you and you consider my suggestion.

Yours faithfully,

RHP

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing complaints, explaining the importance of the reception, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestions for improvement are brief and could be expanded with more specific details on how to implement the changes. The response covers the requirements well enough to be clear, but it lacks the depth of development required for a higher band score. The structure is logical, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Other than that', and 'In addition' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, moving from the problems to the importance of the area, and finally to the proposed solutions. While the paragraphing is effective, the use of referencing could be more precise in places to ensure a more natural flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language such as 'inadequate', 'congested', 'obsolete', and 'vibrant'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'gives obsolete to contemporary times' and 'can be possess'. These errors occasionally hinder the precision of the message. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using collocations more accurately and ensuring that less common vocabulary is used in the correct grammatical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('there is complaints', 'people who is elderly') and article usage ('the reception area' vs 'reception area'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with spacing and missing articles. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Increasing the variety of complex structures while improving accuracy will help improve this score.
