Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. As I am working as assistant Manager in your organization. Today I am writing this letter in order to suggest that how reception could be cleaned as we received number of complaints from the visitors.
Commencing with the problems that are facing by the visitors, from the last week the prime week is already started due to this number of visitors visiting of the daily basis. As per of my observation, they are not getting chair for sitting. This concern is serious issue because our receptionist area is too congested.
Moving further, front desk area is much important because whenever whoever come to the office they have to wait at receptionist area and also it is the customer service point which is much important to us. According to my own view, Sir we have to expand the front desk area and order new number of chairs so they can get proper place to sit or wait. We need to remove the cages that are placed in the corner. I think by clear that area we will get enough space for them.
Thank you for your time,
Yours truly

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed. For instance, while you mention the area is 'congested', you could have elaborated more on how this impacts the company's professional image. The structure is clear, and the purpose of the letter is evident from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting details are more specific and fully expanded to demonstrate a deeper engagement with the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Commencing with' and 'Moving further', to signal transitions between ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the prime week is already started', which makes the timeline of the complaints difficult to follow. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your points effectively. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'organization', 'receptionist area', and 'customer service point'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'prime week' instead of 'peak season' or 'busy period', and 'by clear that area' instead of 'by clearing that area'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic descriptors. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and varied synonyms to express your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'As I am working as assistant Manager' (missing article), 'problems that are facing by the visitors' (incorrect passive voice), and 'whenever whoever come' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries and missing articles. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve your accuracy.
