Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr kim,
I am writing to offer my suggestion on the necessary changes that could be done at the reception area for the smooth flow of the buisness. First and foremost, there has been several concerns regarding the location of the recption area which is inconvinent to anyone entering the building especially the visitors. Secondly, the staff is not welcoming as menationed by numerous people in the review website. Also, there is no one at the desk after 3:PM making challenging for the individuals unkown to the place.
Furthermore, reception is indespensible part of the organisation as it creates a first impression on the visitors as well as any newcomer.Additionally, any vendor arriving for any inquiry on deliveries or for inquiry on working hours can be easily obtained from the waiting area.
Moreover, the service can be effective if we make few changes like re-locationg the desk facing the enterance feasible for the visitors.Further, the staff can be given some training on welcoming the guest as well as making a lasting first impression. Then after having a customer friendly schedule is appreciated especially the newcomers.
I hope that these recommendation would be helpful and look forward for your positive response.
Yours sincerely,
Anna

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of why the reception is important could be more specific to the company's professional image. The suggestions for improvement are relevant, but could benefit from more detail regarding implementation. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. The use of cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' helps to guide the reader through the text. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the transition between the importance of the reception and the suggested improvements could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter, contributing to a clear overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language such as 'indispensable' and 'lasting first impression'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'buisness', 'recption', 'inconvinent', 'menationed', and 'indespensible'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not impede the overall meaning of the letter. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and aim for more precise collocations when describing professional environments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'there has been several concerns' (subject-verb agreement), 'making challenging for the individuals' (missing object), and 're-locationg the desk facing the enterance' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around punctuation marks (e.g., '3:PM'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring grammatical accuracy will help improve this score.
