Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I have been loyal customer of your cafe for 3 years and I have noticed that the reception is too small and has narrow space. Last time, when I came here for my birthday celebration, I felt congested because the cafe was full and few people were waiting outside. At the same time, delivery boy would try to enter to receive the order, but he could not find place to be entered, and due to narrow passage even we, me and my friends couldn't find way to get in.
The reception area plays a key role in every cafe or restaurant. It is considered as primary contact point, where customers got visited and inquire regarding menu and infrastructure. Therefore, I would like to suggest you some important tips to improve the areas. Firstly, you should broaden the passage to be entered, so no one face difficulties. and secondly, you should hang menu or rules regarding your cafe so at first glance customers got an idea for detail. It would be more effective for your cafe.
Hope you take this into consideration and try to improve the reception area.
Your Sincerely,
Kinjal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. However, the response is slightly misaligned with the prompt. The prompt asks you to write to your manager about a company reception area, but you have written to a cafe owner about a cafe. While this is a minor contextual error, the ideas are relevant and well-developed. To reach a higher band, ensure you strictly adhere to the scenario provided in the instructions. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it could be slightly more professional in its address.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly' and 'secondly' to structure your suggestions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the areas' which lacks a clear antecedent. The transition between the complaint section and the importance section is functional but could be smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'congested', 'primary contact point', and 'infrastructure'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'loyal customer of your cafe' (when the prompt implies a workplace) and 'delivery boy would try to enter to receive the order' (which is slightly unclear). Additionally, there are some awkward phrasings like 'find place to be entered'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise collocation and a wider range of vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I have been loyal customer' (missing article), 'customers got visited' (incorrect tense/voice), and 'no one face difficulties' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in sentence construction. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your message. To improve, focus on article usage, verb tense consistency, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater grammatical precision.
