Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to suggest a follow-up for the renovation of new reception area, it is mandatory to resolve this problem because the company already received so many complaints regarding our questionnaire area.
Furthermore, recently we have received complaints about the problem with small area for visitors to stand when they are come to visit the company. The foremost significant complaint was that, the seating area which should be expanded because visitors have to stand in front of the entrance, it can be impact very negative on the minds of visitors. In addition, the reception area is the main section for the company's image because when people come to visit, first of all they will stop at that area, and also when people try to call at the reception area they can not connect with us, so we need to organize new phones for connect with them.
To expand this, if visitors are not comfortable with the reception section they can not wait for a long time to speak with us.
I look forward to your response as well as visitors will get solutions of this problem.
Your sincerely,
Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion regarding the phones is a bit vague, and the connection between the seating area and the company's image could be more clearly articulated. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the tone is occasionally inconsistent, and some phrasing is repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with specific details or examples that demonstrate a deeper understanding of the professional context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the problem to its importance and finally to solutions. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'To expand this'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To expand this' to introduce a concluding thought. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel disjointed, which slightly affects the overall flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas effectively. You use some relevant terms like 'renovation', 'mandatory', and 'company's image'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation, such as 'questionnaire area' (likely meaning 'waiting area') and 'organize new phones for connect with them'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do show a lack of precision. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and expanding your range of professional vocabulary to better suit a formal letter to a manager.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'when they are come to visit' (should be 'when they come to visit') and 'it can be impact very negative' (should be 'it can have a very negative impact'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in verb tense and preposition usage. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your control over complex structures will help improve your score.
