Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this to express my concern about the uncountable complaints made by the guests about the reception area upon arrival.
Recently, visitors have been complaining about the inconvenience they have experienced during their interaction at the check point about the receptionist's disrespectful behavior. Also, they state that she provides very little information about the booking schemes and schedule.
Admittedly, reception is one of the main areas where guests interact with the staff and get their first impression. If they find dissatisfaction at this spot, they are more likely to change their mind before booking a stay. Thus, this will impact the image of the whole company and attarct less visitors.
I would appreciate it if you could either arrange another training or consider hiring a new receptionist who is more diligent for the role and responsibilities.
Looking forward to prompt action.
Yours faithfully,
Navjot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which impacts the overall development of your ideas. While your points are relevant, they could be expanded with more detail to fully meet the task requirements. For instance, you could elaborate on the specific nature of the 'booking schemes' or provide a more detailed suggestion for the training program. Because the response is just two words short of the requirement, the penalty is minor, but it prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'Admittedly', and 'Thus' to link your ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the task. To improve, you could use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between the importance of the reception and your suggestions is smoother. The flow is generally good, and the reader can easily follow your argument throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'inconvenience', 'disrespectful', and 'diligent'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'uncountable complaints' (which sounds unnatural; 'numerous' would be better) and 'attarct' (a spelling error). You also use 'check point' instead of the more standard 'reception desk'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score. Expanding your range of collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional sentence: 'If they find dissatisfaction at this spot, they are more likely to change their mind...'. There are a few grammatical slips, such as 'attarct less visitors' (should be 'fewer' as visitors are countable) and 'arrange another training' (which is slightly awkward; 'arrange further training' is more natural). However, these errors do not impede communication. Your control of punctuation is generally good, and the tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager.
