Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Manager,

I hope this mail finds you well.

I am writing to share my suggestions to solve the issue our hotel's current suffer with complaints about long waiting time at reception area. As our company main business come from room booking by visitors. While, our current staff try to deal with all visitor but due to summers hoildays our hotel reception area always line up by visitor. Therefore, to deal with that much customers we should hire receptionest.

In addition, I assert that effectivily managing reception area is important for the reputation of our business. If our main desk area always full with individuals, It will set a wrong prospective among other that we are not taking our customer request seriously. Consequently, sloving this issue is most important thing foe us, for doing this we can hire more staff for reception desk and also hire customer relationship manager to over look the whole process and if anything will do wrong, he or she have sufficient knowlegde to slove it.

I hope with this masures we are easily solve this problem.

Your sincerely,

Sheebu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: the complaints, the importance of the area, and suggestions for improvement. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the 'long waiting time' and the need for more staff, the explanation of why the reception is important is slightly repetitive and lacks professional depth. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a manager, though the expression of ideas could be more precise to fully meet the requirements of a higher band. The response is clear, but the arguments could be better supported with more specific details regarding the nature of the complaints or the implementation of your suggestions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the flow of information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the use of 'While,' at the start of a sentence is grammatically incorrect in this context, and 'Consequently,' is used to connect ideas that do not follow logically from the previous sentence. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'if anything will do wrong,' which makes the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the overall flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations. Phrases like 'current suffer with complaints' and 'line up by visitor' are non-standard. Additionally, there are spelling errors such as 'receptionest', 'sloving', 'foe', 'masures', and 'knowlegde'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise professional terminology and ensuring correct spelling and collocation of common business-related phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('our company main business come'), incorrect verb forms ('our current staff try to deal'), and awkward sentence construction ('if anything will do wrong'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of commas and capitalization. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would be a great next step.
