Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I am glad for selecting me to suggest some ideas about the major problem related to reception area. First of all, many clients complaints about the calls are not attended by the front desk staff. Additionally, when they ask something related to company and other topics then staff do not provide the correct information to them. Moreover, visitors from different nation face problem related to language when they talk with receptionist.
This area is the backbone of company because if the information is not convey properly to client as well as to our staff members regarding meetings and all then it is very hard for us to cope with our visitor.
As i think staff at the front desk should know about our company policies and standards. Thus he or she can guide the visitor properly. Secondly, person is more attentive regarding their roles and responsibilities. Finally, to talk with different nation client of our organization, the receptionist must be bilingual. As a result, client convey their message easily and we understand it properly.
Thank you so much for your attention to my suggestions. I hope these suggestions may work.
With regards,
Daman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion that the receptionist should be 'bilingual' is a good point, but it could be expanded by explaining how this would specifically improve the company's image or efficiency. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that each suggestion is fully explained with a clear link to the benefits for the company.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. The use of cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'Finally' helps to guide the reader through the text. However, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as in the sentence 'As i think staff at the front desk should know...', where the connection to the previous paragraph could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some attempts at using more specific vocabulary, such as 'backbone of company' and 'policies and standards'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'many clients complaints' (should be 'complain') and 'different nation client' (should be 'international clients'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the ideas, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Improving the accuracy of word forms and collocations would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the reception area', 'the company'), subject-verb agreement ('clients complaints'), and preposition usage. For example, 'I am glad for selecting me' is grammatically incorrect and should be 'I am glad you selected me'. Additionally, there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'if the information is not convey properly'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
