Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing in reference to the complaints raised about the reception area. The reception area is a place where the visitors arrive for enquiries and bookings but if the service provided or the low quality facilities makes a negative image in minds of the customers thereby loosing sales which will result in loss for the company.
Regreattably, the front desk services provided in our company doesn't meet the quality that is advertised. Moreover the seating facilities need to be taken into consideration as soon as possible due to the failure of providing enough seats to the guests.
However, this can be sorted by appointing qualified staffs with proper educational background in office administration. Furthermore making the reception area a wider space with proper furnitures and equipments that welcomes the customer in a kindful manner makes the reception more attractive.
In the light of this issue, I would request you to take my suggestions into consideration for the better growth of our company. Your assistance towards this matter would greatly help out.
Kind regards,
Sona Sabu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that the seating is inadequate, you do not specify what kind of seating is needed or why the current setup is failing. Similarly, the suggestion to appoint 'qualified staff' is a bit vague. To reach a higher band, try to provide more specific, concrete details or examples to support your suggestions, which would make your argument more persuasive and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as starting the second paragraph with 'Regreattably' (a spelling error) or the third paragraph with 'However', which does not perfectly contrast with the previous paragraph's content. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of the letter is easy to follow, but more variety in cohesive devices would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enquiries', 'administration', and 'attractive'. There are some instances of awkward word choice or non-standard collocations, such as 'kindful manner' (kindly/professional manner) and 'loosing sales' (losing sales). Additionally, 'furnitures' is an uncountable noun and should be 'furniture'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision in word choice and a better understanding of word forms. Expanding your vocabulary to include more professional business-related collocations would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the service... or the low quality facilities makes' should be 'make') and pluralization errors ('furnitures and equipments' should be 'furniture and equipment'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing commas in complex sentences. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of uncountable nouns, as these are recurring issues throughout your writing.
