Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I would like to describe some circumstances in which customer faced problems regarding to our reception area. Thus, we got a plenty of complains which makes our reputation down.
We got some complains about our poor seating area since we have not only lack of seating place but also broken furniture which makes terrible to rest for customers while waiting for their turn. In addition, owing to shortage of front-staff, waiting time by customers are escalating day by day which hampers the footprint of new client. Hence, some customers are demonstrating their frustration on staff which gives negative impact of worker's self respect.
However, reception area is a crucial part of our company as it creates first and foremost impression towards company's culture, working method and business profitability. Consequently, I have some ideas which will help to create comfortable reception area for clients such as new sofa set along with some toy for kids to make them busy while their parents are solving their issue with our workers. Moreover, new staff should be hire by our company so that we can reduce waiting time which will eventually amplify our reputation by short-time services company.
I hope you will agree with my thoughts regarding to enhancing company's facilities.
Kind regards,
Krishna

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the complaints regarding furniture and staffing, explain the importance of the reception area for company image, and offer relevant suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, some ideas could be developed further; for instance, the suggestion to hire new staff is a good start, but explaining how this would specifically improve the reception experience would strengthen the response. Overall, the task is fully addressed with a clear purpose throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Consequently', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'which makes our reputation down' and 'which gives negative impact of worker's self respect', where the connection between clauses is slightly awkward. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'crucial', 'demonstrating their frustration', and 'amplify our reputation'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'makes our reputation down' instead of 'damages our reputation', and 'solving their issue' instead of 'resolving their queries'. Additionally, 'short-time services company' is not a natural collocation. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I would like to describe some circumstances in which customer faced problems'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' reception area, 'a' plenty of complaints), subject-verb agreement ('waiting time... are escalating'), and prepositional usage ('regarding to'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic article usage and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement.
