There have been several complaints about the reception area where visitors to your company arrive. Your manager has asked you to suggest how the reception area could be improved.
Write a letter to your manager. In your letter

Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Tim,
I am writing this letter regarding the rising complaints of our company reception area.
The most issue in the front of house is the visitors running out of chairs, people tend to stand until their names been called out. And the other thing is that we don't have a water filter in the reception and people have to ask for water from the counters.
Reception takes a main roll in the company, because people who tend to come to our company expect simple things like a water filter to drink some water when they are thirsty and to have a seat while their names are been called out.
As my perspective I would suggest the company reception can be improved by adding more chair facilities to people to sit until their names are been called out and also adding a water filter so that people do not have to stay thirsty.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the lack of chairs and the water filter. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the impact of these issues on the company's professional image or visitor experience, rather than restating the same points in each paragraph. The response is clear and fulfills the communicative purpose effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. There is a clear progression of ideas from the problem to the justification and finally the solution. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the description of the complaints and the importance of the reception could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the repetition of phrases like 'names are been called out' creates a slightly disjointed flow. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'most issue' (which should be 'main issue') and 'takes a main roll' (which should be 'plays a major role'). While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday words. To improve, try to incorporate more professional or business-oriented terminology, such as 'professional image,' 'visitor satisfaction,' or 'infrastructure upgrades,' rather than repeating simple descriptions. The word choice is functional but does not demonstrate a wide range of lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are several recurring grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Specifically, the passive voice construction 'names are been called out' is incorrect; it should be 'names are being called out'. Additionally, there are minor errors such as 'As my perspective' (should be 'From my perspective') and 'running out of chairs' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). While you use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on verb tense consistency and correct preposition usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
