Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear manager,

I am writing this letter to suggest some ideas to improve reception area as we receive lot of complaints.

One primary issue is that the area has not enough space, even ten people waiting area makes crowded. Secondly, lake of seating arrangements makes people frustrated. In addition to that few small things should has been approve like ventilation, no basic facilities such as a water.

However, we should make the reception area little unique because it is the foundation of our company and create special effect on company's reputation. we should renovate the area and make windows little bigger as they will give natural light and makes refreshment gives pure air. As the area get bigger seating arrangement will automatically have enough space but we can try sofa instead of chairs and could put some games table for children so they can not get bored.

Thank you so much for asking my feedback.

Yours faithfully

Ritika

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that the area is important for the company's reputation, this point could be expanded further to explain how it influences client perception. The suggestions for improvement are practical, but the explanation of why these specific changes would be effective is brief. Overall, the response covers the requirements of the task effectively, though it remains at a fairly basic level of development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the complaints and suggestions, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Secondly', 'In addition to that', and 'However' to link your ideas. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by grammatical errors, such as in the second paragraph. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall progression of ideas is clear enough for the reader to follow your argument without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'renovate', 'reputation', and 'arrangements'. However, there are several instances of word choice errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'lake of seating' (lack of), 'approve' (improved), and 'makes refreshment gives pure air'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a limitation in your control over more precise vocabulary. To reach a higher band, focus on using collocations more accurately and expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and nouns related to office environments.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'has not enough space' (does not have), 'ten people waiting area makes crowded' (the waiting area for ten people is crowded), and 'should has been approve' (should be improved). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to suggest that your control over complex structures is still developing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and verb tense consistency will help improve your accuracy.
