Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing this letter to express my concern regarding the ongoing complaint about the reception area and, I would like to give few suggestions that needs to be taken care of.
One of the major concerns that visitors may face is long waiting hours at the reception desk. This can be particulary frustrating for the people who have a busy schedules and may leave them with a negative impression of the organisation. Additionally, the staff members addressing at the reception area are unfriendly which leads to visitors may feel unwelcome or disssastisfied with the service provided by our company.
Given the expectation set by our brand, they are under impression that our establishment priorititse visitors satisfaction and introduced an apppointment management system. The reception area is the first contact between visitos and organisation. Therefore, it's condition can strongly influence their first impression.
Undoubttedly, resolving this issue will help to restore the trust in our company. . To address this issue, I would recommend introducing a computerized queue-management system and training reception staff memeber to be polite and resolve the issues for the visitors during peak hours.
I hope you will take my suggestions into consideration.
Kind regards,
Cheshta Malik

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the complaints regarding waiting times and staff behavior, explain the significance of the reception area as the company's 'first contact', and provide actionable suggestions like a queue-management system and staff training. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed without minor logical gaps; for instance, the sentence regarding the 'appointment management system' is slightly disconnected from the surrounding context. Overall, the task requirements are fully met with a clear and professional approach.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Therefore', and 'Given the expectation', which help the flow of ideas. However, there are instances where the progression could be smoother. For example, the transition between the importance of the reception area and the proposed solutions is slightly abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problem from the proposed solutions. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that cohesive devices are used to link sentences more naturally rather than just at the start of paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'establishment', 'prioritise', and 'computerized'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'particulary', 'disssastisfied', 'priorititse', 'apppointment', 'visitos', and 'Undoubttedly'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional quality of the letter. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, the frequency of these slips prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for common spelling mistakes will significantly enhance your lexical performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing this letter to express my concern...' and 'This can be particularly frustrating for the people who have busy schedules...'. While you show an ability to construct complex sentences, there are persistent grammatical errors, such as 'few suggestions that needs to be taken care of' (should be 'need'), 'staff members addressing at the reception area are unfriendly' (awkward phrasing), and 'they are under impression' (missing article). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some minor errors, such as the double period after 'company.'. Improving your control over subject-verb agreement and article usage will help you achieve a higher band.
