Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to suggest some improvements for our company's reception area.
Recently, we have received multiple complaints from visitors, regarding our reception area. One of the common complaint is that our receptionist is majorly busy in attending phone queries, so visitors have to wait for longer hours. Secondly, our waiting area has few chairs. Due to this, reception area gets over-crowded.
It is very well said that, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Reception is one of the important space of every business, because it is the first point of interaction of all the clients. So, we have to make it welcoming and comfortable for all the visitors.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you addressed the complaints and the importance of the reception area, the letter is incomplete; you stopped mid-sentence while suggesting improvements. Because the final bullet point was not fully developed and the response is under-length, the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure you fully develop each bullet point and provide a complete closing statement to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing for each point. You used some cohesive devices such as 'Recently', 'Secondly', and 'Because', which help the flow. However, the abrupt ending disrupts the overall coherence of the piece. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully connected and that the letter reaches a natural conclusion. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, but the lack of a completed final paragraph limits the effectiveness of the organization.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'interaction', 'over-crowded', and 'first impression'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'majorly busy' is informal and unnatural; 'primarily occupied' or 'constantly busy' would be better. Additionally, 'one of the important space' contains a grammatical error in number agreement. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary remains formal throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'One of the common complaint' (should be 'complaints') and 'one of the important space' (should be 'spaces'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a lack of control over pluralization and noun phrases. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and plural forms. The incomplete sentence at the end also prevents a full assessment of your ability to use complex structures.
