Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr.Patel,
I am writing this letter to give you a suggestions about the improvement of the reception area.
There has been numbers of complaints received from the visitors about the reception area such as due to lack of staff at the front employers are not able to sign in and sign out. Moreover, due to lack of guidance, people have difficulties in following the direction as building is immense.
In the company reception area is important as many people are coming from the other companies for the interviews and other information. If there is good staff at front, it will be more easier for unknown people.
It would be great if you could hire staff for day and night shift so people can get help. Also, proper training is also more matter as communication is the primary factor to be a good receptionist.
Thank you and I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Pragati Nanera

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that the building is 'immense' and visitors have trouble with directions, you could have provided more specific examples of how this impacts the company's reputation. The suggestions for improvement are relevant but could be more detailed to fully satisfy the task requirements. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager, though the overall development of ideas remains at a basic level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with clear paragraphing that separates the introduction, the body points, and the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Also', and 'If', which help the flow of the letter. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, the sentence 'Also, proper training is also more matter' is disjointed and lacks a clear connection to the previous point. Improving the variety of linking words would help the flow feel more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your message effectively, such as 'reception area', 'interviews', and 'communication'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'there has been numbers of complaints' (should be 'a number of') and 'proper training is also more matter' (should be 'is also important'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit your ability to use less common lexical items with precision. Expanding your vocabulary to include more professional collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('there has been numbers') and article usage ('in the company reception area'). Additionally, there are issues with word order and phrasing, such as 'it will be more easier' (double comparative) and 'due to lack of staff at the front employers are not able to sign in' (where 'employees' or 'visitors' was likely intended). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your points.
