Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Smith,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this email to solve problem regarding reception area.
There are plenty of complaints have been made from the visitors to our company. First of all, it is about our staff who are not well trained to do conversation with clients in English language. Secondly, they do not know how to behave to the customer in polit way.
Furthermore, the reception area is essential for not only our reputation but also for customer satisfaction. Therefore, I will provide some suggestions regarding the improvement that could be beneficial to implement in reception area, it will raise our reviews on google.
There are several thing to work on, one of them is the most vital, is to train our staff members who works at reception area such as receptionist. We should provide them an English Language Tutor or online classes to increase their language efficiency.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I would greatly appreciate if it possible to resolve this problem.
Sincerely,
Drew Paul.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. Your tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that staff are not well-trained, you could have provided more specific examples of the complaints to make your argument more persuasive. The suggestions for improvement are relevant but could be expanded with more detail on how these changes would be implemented. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of the content could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as in the phrase 'regarding the improvement that could be beneficial to implement in reception area', which feels a bit clunky. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, though more sophisticated linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'reputation', 'customer satisfaction', and 'efficiency'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'solve problem regarding' (should be 'address the problems regarding') and 'behave to the customer in polit way' (should be 'behave towards customers in a polite manner'). To improve, try to use more precise collocations and ensure you are using the correct word forms, such as 'polite' instead of 'polit'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'There are plenty of complaints have been made' (should be 'have been made'), 'staff who works' (should be 'staff who work'), and 'if it possible' (should be 'if it is possible'). These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will help improve your accuracy.
