Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Abhi,
I am writing an email regarding the complaints we collected from our visitors for the reception area which is considerable for us to improve reputation of our company.
Firstly, main concern is when visitors are coming there is huge lineup because of less space which feel visitors uncomfortable as well as tired. They mentioned there is no sitting area for our clients however, we place some chairs which is not sufficient for them. Moreover, there is no drinking water facility which gives negative impact on us.
We need to improve our reception area because when we enter our first thing to get query from this area, so our rating goes down if it is not properly well maintained which is not good for the company.
My recommend is to increase the space, put some books or magzines so that if the waiting time is more visitors sit and read something.
Thank you for your consideration. If you need any assistance please feel free to ask me.
Yours faithfully,
Amrita

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why the area is important is a bit repetitive and lacks professional depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended with more specific details or professional reasoning. The structure is clear, and the purpose of the letter is evident from the beginning, which satisfies the requirements for this task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the transition between the complaints and the importance of the area could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'when we enter our first thing to get query from this area'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your points effectively. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'reputation', 'facility', and 'consideration'. However, there are instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'huge lineup' (better as 'long queues') and 'get query' (better as 'make inquiries'). There is also a spelling error ('magzines'). To improve, try to use more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range of vocabulary to include more sophisticated expressions would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'which feel visitors uncomfortable' (should be 'makes visitors feel uncomfortable'), 'we place some chairs which is not sufficient' (should be 'which are not sufficient'), and 'My recommend is' (should be 'My recommendation is'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and word forms. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help improve this score.
