Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

My name is Jaskaran Singh. I am writing this letter to inform you about the problems of the reception area and I would like to shed some lights on few suggests to solve that issue.

Additionally, as you our hotel is always busy in the weekends and it is not a easy take for only one employee to handle all the visitors on the reception. Due to that every customer do not get proper time for their inquires and not be satisfied by our service.

Moreover, I believe that the reception area is the first look of our hotel so it play a crucial role to make good impression in front of our visitors and because of that it must get some attention. At last, by providing more training and hiring new staff we will get a solution of that problem . I hope you will put attention on these idea and I also appreciate you for listening my suggestion

Thank you,

yours faithfully,

Joskaran singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, you mention that visitors do not get 'proper time' for inquiries, but you could have been more specific about the nature of the complaints (e.g., long waiting times or lack of information). The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a manager, though it could be more professional. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more detail and specific examples to fully satisfy the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. You use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'At last' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is slightly abrupt. The paragraphing is present, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'that problem') clearly points back to the previously mentioned issues. The overall progression of ideas is clear, but the mechanical nature of some transitions holds the score back from a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'inquiries', 'impression', and 'training'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'shed some lights on few suggests' (should be 'shed some light on a few suggestions') and 'not a easy take' (should be 'not an easy task'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a limited range of vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('it play a crucial role' should be 'it plays') and article usage ('a easy take' should be 'an easy task'). Additionally, there are issues with pluralization ('every customer do not get' should be 'customers do not get'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing. Increasing your control over basic grammatical rules will significantly improve your score.
