Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr kapoor,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to provide suggestions regarding redevelopment of the reception area in our company.
There are plenty of the complains we got from the visitors of our company about reception area. Firstly, a number of clients disappointed by seating arrangements like, lack of comfortable chairs force them to stand for a long time to meet the manages or other staff. Moreover, one receptionist could not be handle the crowed of clients during peak hours, which consume valuable time of visitors and makes them frustrated over time. Also, infrastructure looks like outdated and dull, which reduce the overall beauty of our company.
Reception is the main area of our company, where visitors get information and suggestions as per their needs. Also, neat and tidy reception area build positive impression on visitors and encourage them to visit again and again.
As per my thought, we can add a number of new comfortable chairs in order to improve the convenience of clients during waiting time. Also, appointing more receptionist will mitigate the chances of over-crowding at reception area and approach each visitors on time. Additionally, putting classic furniture and install new lights will significantly enhance the look of reception area.
I hope my suggestions will be helpful to our company and resolve the current problems. Please let me know if you need any help.
Best regards,
Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points of the prompt. You described the complaints regarding seating and staffing, explained the importance of the reception area for company image, and provided actionable suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could elaborate on how the 'outdated' infrastructure specifically impacts the company's professional reputation. Overall, the response is clear, relevant, and fully meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a professional closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' to transition between ideas. While these are effective, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. The referencing is generally clear, and the structure supports the overall purpose of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'mitigate', and 'convenience'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'one receptionist could not be handle the crowed' (should be 'could not handle the crowd') and 'infrastructure looks like outdated' (should be 'looks outdated'). There are also minor errors in word forms, such as 'complains' (noun: complaints). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice and spelling to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'a number of clients disappointed' (missing auxiliary verb 'are'), 'infrastructure looks like outdated' (incorrect structure), and 'approach each visitors' (should be 'approach each visitor'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb tenses and pluralization. Despite these errors, the complexity of your sentences is sufficient for this level, and the errors rarely cause confusion for the reader.
