Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to share some steps that how to solve complaints that we faced in reception area.

Firstly, customers have to wait for a long time at reception area because the service is very slow. All the customers complaint about the services as they have to wait to get keys and bag which put negative impact on the company.

Moreover, reception area is important because all the people get information and reserve their place for living, so it should be well maintained. First, they come through reception area so this would be better by providing good and fast services without any kind of difficulties.

Furthermore, these problems should be solved as soon as possible. It could be improved by hiring more trained staff as well as well educated. These changes can make the reception area better. I hope you understand my concern.

Yours faithfully,

Anveer kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt: describing complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the area is important is a bit repetitive, and the suggestions for improvement are quite brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more specific details or examples. For instance, instead of just saying 'hiring more trained staff,' you could suggest specific training programs or a new digital check-in system to address the slow service mentioned earlier.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure of your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'Moreover,' and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition from the importance of the reception area to the suggestions for improvement feels a bit abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'reception area,' 'services,' and 'well maintained.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some awkward collocations, such as 'put negative impact' (should be 'has a negative impact') and 'well educated' (which is a bit vague in this context). To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to business and customer service, and focus on using words in their correct collocations to sound more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'I am writing this letter to share some steps that how to solve' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'I am writing to suggest ways to resolve.' Additionally, there are issues with article usage ('in reception area' should be 'in the reception area') and pluralization ('All the customers complaint' should be 'All the customers complain'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing.
