Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Noah,
I hope you are having a great day. I have an update on our recent discussion on how to improvise the reception area for our visitors and clients.
While doing an overview of complaints, I had noticed few common complaints which were emphasizing on seating area. Currently, we have few chairs which are almost broken. There was recent accident where one of the client fell from the chair due to chair's unstable legs.
For every business, the reception area is the pride of it's business. As, it's the first place where the clients or visitor connect with our business associates.
However, I have few advise which we can implement to improve our reception area so that no further complaint about it. For instances, we can add new comfortable sofa , a coffee table with few magazine and books along with a coffee machine in the corner which will help customer to get relax while they await for their turn. Please let me know how is suggestion, would it work for us or not.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I am looking forward to your prompt response.
Best Regards,
Bhoutik Gohil

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of why the reception is important could be expanded beyond just 'pride of business' to include the impact on client retention or professional reputation. The suggestions for improvement are relevant and clearly stated, fulfilling the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'For instances', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor errors in referencing and sentence structure. For example, the transition between the complaints and the importance of the area could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'emphasizing', 'unstable', and 'consideration'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as using 'improvise' instead of 'improve' and 'advise' (a verb) instead of 'advice' (a noun). Additionally, there are minor errors with articles and pluralization, such as 'few common complaints' (should be 'a few') and 'one of the client' (should be 'one of the clients'). These errors do not impede communication but suggest a need for more precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'it's business' (should be 'its business'), 'where the clients or visitor connect' (subject-verb agreement), and 'how is suggestion' (should be 'how the suggestion is'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that affect the overall fluency. Increasing your control over basic grammar, particularly articles and possessive pronouns, would significantly improve your score.
