Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
As you know ,we received lot of complaints about the reception area I want your attention to visitor's objection .there is no setting arrangements. No cleanliness ,no fans ,no waiting area. Etc.....
In my opinion reception area is played very important role for any professional place .when visitor's has come and impress our hospitality then definitely we earn more profit .They share our experience with our friends and colleagues. Reception area is soul of any professional place .
In my view we have to do such things like we can hire a person to do clean reception area at all the time .we serve welcome drink to visitors and provide chairs . We can install some fans and air condition which is feel relaxed to come in .and make some special area for elders and children .In such condition the waiting queue is long then we put some magazines ,newspaper and our company's brochure. In my thoughts this is the way to make our reception area is attractive and comfortable.
Thank you
Prakash

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points: describing complaints, explaining the importance of the reception, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The complaints are listed in a fragmented way, and the suggestions, while relevant, lack detail. The tone is occasionally informal (e.g., 'Etc.....'), which is not ideal for a letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more descriptive language and ensure the tone remains professional throughout the entire letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the use of 'In my opinion' and 'In my view' is repetitive. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'In such condition the waiting queue is long', where the connection to the previous thought is weak. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'visitor's objection' instead of 'visitor complaints' and 'reception area is played very important role'. The use of 'Etc.....' is inappropriate for a formal letter. While the meaning is generally clear, the word choices are basic and sometimes inaccurate. Expanding your vocabulary to include more professional collocations would significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('visitor's has come'), missing articles ('do clean reception area'), and incorrect verb forms ('which is feel relaxed'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and the use of ellipses. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
