Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Manager

Hope this letter finds you well . Well I am writing this letter you to share some concerns regarding getting regular negative comments about our hotel’s reception area by valuable customers .

I believe that it is normal if some days have busy check in area and long queues at front desk area . However I have seen for past three months that we are shortage of experienced staff who can quickly resolve the customers issues . It makes bad impact on our customer services when reception employees running here and there to clear doubts. Moreover our reception team are under confident. They can not take swift actions by them as they require approval from senior managers .everyone knows literate crew members and team aid in maintain good reputation among people .The reception area’s are considered as a heart of businesses which could impress as well attract the clients with confident front end management.

So I recommend that our hotel should be focus on ongoing training program and courses to keep updated staff members with new policies. It could be beneficial to upgrade the hotel’s reputation. Moreover providing feedback leaflets to customers before check out to know about lacking services.

Hope to hear from you soon and I hope above mentioned factors could be resolve with each and everyone’s support by implementing and introducing eduction system .

Warm regards

Priya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the complaints regarding staff experience and queues, explain the importance of the reception as the 'heart' of the business, and offer relevant suggestions for improvement, such as training programs and feedback mechanisms. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are more fully developed; for instance, you could explain how specific training would directly resolve the issue of staff needing senior approval for simple tasks.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'However' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and punctuation errors, such as the missing space before 'Moreover' and the inconsistent use of periods. The transition between the description of the problem and the suggested solutions is clear, but the overall progression could be smoother if you used a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'reputation', 'swift actions', and 'under-confident'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'we are shortage of' (we have a shortage of), 'literate crew members' (which is an unusual choice in this context), and 'team aid in maintain' (team aids in maintaining). These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'getting regular negative comments' (I have been receiving), 'reception employees running' (reception employees are running), and 'factors could be resolve' (factors could be resolved). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests that you need to focus on subject-verb agreement and passive voice construction to improve accuracy.
