Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

i am writing to inform multiple complaints about reception area.

To begin with, i got many complaints about parking area. Because of small area, visitors are getting in trouble for parking their vehicles. I would suggest you that we can borrow the firm which is near by the party plot. Adding to this, people do not have reserve spot for VIP guest, while they have booked the spot for seating area.

We are running profitable business for clients. Hence, i feel that reception area is a quiet peaceful and comfortable for new clients because visitors are coming to the front desk which is our first impression.

If we arrange seating area wisely, it could be more impressive and comfortable for visitors. improving reception area is not only for company, but also for employees.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Jiya patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion to 'borrow the firm' is unclear and lacks detail, making it difficult for the manager to understand the proposed solution. To improve, ensure your suggestions are practical and fully explained. While you have covered the requirements, the lack of depth in your explanations prevents a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Adding to this', and 'Hence' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. Additionally, the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother; for example, the shift from parking complaints to VIP seating is abrupt. Improving the flow between sentences would help your writing feel more natural and professional.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. You rely on basic phrasing, such as 'getting in trouble' and 'profitable business'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'borrow the firm', which do not convey your intended meaning clearly. To reach a higher band, focus on using more professional, business-appropriate terminology and ensure that your word choices are accurate in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including missing articles ('the reception area', 'the parking area'), incorrect verb forms ('inform multiple complaints' instead of 'inform you of'), and punctuation issues. You primarily use simple sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, these errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone required for a letter to a manager. Incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence structures and proofreading for basic errors would significantly improve your score.
