Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Mam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give you some ideas regarding how to improve reception services.
Various types of complaints have been done by the visitors. The large numbers of complaints are coming because of lack of staff members as visitors have to wait for longer than expected for the basic information. Another issue, long time of processing and documentation make people feels bored and angry.
In order to improve the reviews on the internet, We have to make our reception area more impressive because customers first intract with that place . If they do not get positive vibes over there, they start finding faults in other services as well.
Firstly, We should hire more professional receptionist to improve our service time. We should also offer some basic services to the visitors like beverages, food and washrooms and make sure they do not feel ignored during peak times.
Anyways , Just let me know if you need any other help from me.
Your faithful,
Aaryan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the complaints regarding staff shortages and processing times, explain the importance of the reception area for first impressions, and suggest improvements like hiring more staff and providing amenities. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could explain how the proposed amenities specifically alleviate the frustration caused by long wait times. Overall, the task is fulfilled effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Another issue', 'In order to', and 'Firstly' to guide the reader through your points. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and the closing sentence 'Anyways' is too informal for a professional letter. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a more formal tone in your transitions would enhance the flow and coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional', 'documentation', and 'amenities' (implied). There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'complaints have been done' (should be 'made') and 'intract' (spelling error for 'interact'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, incorporating more precise collocations or less common professional terminology would help you achieve a higher score. Avoid informal fillers like 'Anyways' in professional correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'The large numbers of complaints are coming because of lack of staff' (missing article 'a') and 'make people feels' (subject-verb agreement error). Additionally, 'Dear Sir/Mam' should be 'Dear Sir/Madam'. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures.
