Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Neha,
I am writing to provide suggestion on how the reception are could be improved.
The majority of customer have complained that they do not get a positive vibe about the company as the employee on the reception is always on the phone and the tone in which she responds is not appropriate.
Reception desk is most vital, as it gives the first impression about the company. it is the first point the visitor passes by before heading to required department. For example, when a person is entering the building is warmly welcome at the front desk, he/she will get a positive vibe about the company who may turn into a potential client or the investor which will help the company to grow.
First thing one should keep in mind while appointing a person for the front desk job should have excellent communication skills to greet and welcome the visitor. other important suggestion is to provide effective training on ethics that should be followed when welcome a visitor.
Hope you take my suggestions into consideration and take appropriate action.
Thanks & Regards,
Reshma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that the receptionist is always on the phone, you could have elaborated on the impact this has on the company's professional image. Similarly, the suggestions for improvement are a bit generic. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are more fully extended with specific examples or detailed explanations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic paragraphing effectively to separate the complaints, the importance of the area, and your suggestions. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the importance of the reception and the suggestions could be smoother. Using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in light of this') would help improve the flow and logical progression of your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'potential client', 'investor', and 'communication skills'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'provide suggestion' (should be 'provide suggestions') and 'the reception are' (a typo for 'area'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the sophistication required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'The majority of customer have complained' should be 'customers have complained', and 'when a person is entering the building is warmly welcome' is grammatically incorrect. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
