Student answer (Band 5.0)

Respected Ma'am,

I have came to know that many of our clients are facing problems.

Firstly the sitting place is lesser than visitors.we also have to install more air conditioner. Its extreme hot nowadays. With these issues our performance and market value is decreasing.I have a humble request please try to fix it as soon as possible.I felt our customers are the main source of earning.we do have our competitors in our surroundings.

I believe our old customers are very faithful to us .we have to reach more clients. There are promotions going on it increased the numbers of visitors.I think we need to extend our reception. To target More consumers we need to make it better as early as possible.I hope my suggestion will be fruitful.we will be able to reach more people. It will provide us more business opportunities and customers feedback will be pleasant in future.

Regards.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all three bullet points: describing complaints, explaining the importance of the reception, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these ideas is limited, and the letter is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which impacts the overall task completion. The tone is somewhat informal and lacks the professional structure expected in a business letter to a manager. While the ideas are relevant, they are presented in a fragmented way, and the lack of sufficient length prevents a more thorough exploration of the suggestions, such as specific design changes or logistical improvements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter lacks clear paragraphing, which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. The transition between the complaints and the importance of the reception is abrupt. There is a lack of cohesive devices; sentences are often short and choppy, such as 'Its extreme hot nowadays. With these issues our performance and market value is decreasing.' The use of referencing is also weak, making the logical flow feel mechanical rather than fluid. To improve, you should group related ideas into distinct paragraphs and use linking words like 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in addition' to connect your thoughts.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'sitting place is lesser' and 'make it better' are imprecise and lack the professional register required for a formal letter. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'faithful' instead of 'loyal' and 'earning' instead of 'revenue.' While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of an attempt to use more sophisticated or topic-specific terminology related to office management or customer service. Expanding your vocabulary to include more formal business collocations would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that occur frequently. Examples include 'I have came to know' (should be 'I have come'), 'Its extreme hot' (should be 'It is extremely hot'), and 'it increased the numbers' (should be 'has increased'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures; most sentences are simple or contain errors in punctuation and tense. Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a limited control over English grammar, particularly regarding verb forms and sentence construction.
