Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Rishab,
I hope you are doing great. I am writing in response to your request to suggest some solutions for the improvement of the reception area.
Over the past few months, several complaints have been received regarding the reception area. One of the main complains is about inadequate and unclear signage to direct the customer to their particular location. It creates confusion and unnecessary delays. Moreover, some people complain about having fewer servers at the counters during the peak times. Because they have to wait in a queue for a long time.
Since reception is first point to contact of our company, it must be attractive and supportive. This area plays an essential role in creating a social image and reputation of our company among the public. therefore, to grow effectively.
I would like to suggest few resolutions that can help in improvement of the area. Firstly, a clear signage should be installed to help customers to move around comfortably. In addition, during the peak times all service counter should be working to answer individuals' inquiries.
Thank you for considering my opinion over this issue as a part of team. I hope these comments might help.
Yours sincerely,
Rahul

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task effectively. You clearly describe the complaints regarding signage and staffing, explain the importance of the reception area as the company's 'first point of contact', and provide logical suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, the sentence 'therefore, to grow effectively' is a fragment and lacks a clear connection to the previous thought. Expanding slightly on how the proposed changes would specifically benefit the company's reputation would further strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Since', and 'Firstly' to guide the reader through your points. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by minor grammatical slips that affect the flow, such as the incomplete sentence in the second paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. To improve, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that each sentence is complete to maintain a smoother, more professional flow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'inadequate', 'inquiries', and 'resolutions' correctly. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'first point to contact' (should be 'first point of contact') and 'complains' (should be 'complaints'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it remains somewhat functional. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common vocabulary related to business environments, such as 'streamline operations' or 'professional image'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'all service counter should be working' (should be 'counters') and 'a clear signage' (signage is uncountable). Additionally, the sentence 'therefore, to grow effectively' is a fragment. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining control would also be beneficial.
