Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing good in your life. You must be aware regarding the complaints about reception area and being a employee to this company I want to give certain suggestions for the betterment of the company.
Since last 2-3 weeks complaints has been increasing day by day. Sometimes it happens that receptionist has gone for lunch and visitors arrived during that particular time front desk was vacant. Secondly, there is no supporting staff available to serve water to the visitors.
However, I believe reception area is one of the important area because it because it shows the first impression of the company. Every person who is going to visit our company first time they definatly going to observe the ambience and hospitality of the company.
There are certain steps which we need to change for the improvement of reception area. Firstly, we need to hire another receptionist so that if one person is not available on desk then second will attend. On the other hand, a staff boy should be their to attend the visitors.
Kindly work on these suggestion so that the presentation of our company will go best in the public.
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the suggestion to 'hire another receptionist' is a good start, but could be further developed by explaining how this would impact the company's efficiency or visitor satisfaction. The letter covers the requirements well, but to reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations for your suggestions rather than simply stating them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the repetitive 'it because it' in the third paragraph. The overall progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, which helps the reader follow your argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'ambience', 'hospitality', and 'betterment'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'doing good in your life' (which is overly informal and slightly unnatural in this context) and 'presentation of our company will go best' (which is awkward phrasing). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you need to use more precise and natural collocations to achieve a higher score. Expanding your range of formal business-related terminology would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'complaints has been increasing' (subject-verb agreement), 'being a employee' (article usage), and 'a staff boy should be their' (homophone error: 'there'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'Every person who is going to visit our company first time they definatly going to observe'. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will improve your accuracy.
