Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Johan,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to handover some ideas on how to improve the reception area.
The reception area always have different negative feedback from our costumer. First, the receptionist do not answer our visitor politely. Second, the area were always messy and dirty. Last, the air conditioning system was malfunctioning most of the time.
We need to sette this matter urgently due. The reception area is very important to us because it is the face of the company and this where all yhe transaction begin.
I would appreciate it if you consider some of my suggestion. We need to have some trainings and seminars to our staff. Next, additional cleaning staff to maintain cleanliness in this area and probably hire a technician who can repair and maintain the air-conditioning system of the company.
Thank you for your kind consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Vergel Lozano

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: describing complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the suggestions for improvement are listed rather than explained in detail. To reach a higher band, you should expand on how the training or the new technician would specifically resolve the issues mentioned. Despite this, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is fully informed of the situation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First', 'Second', 'Last', and 'Next' to sequence your points. While these are functional, they are somewhat mechanical. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the referencing is generally clear. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, rather than relying on simple enumerators at the start of every sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'malfunctioning', 'urgently', and 'consideration'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'handover' (which should be 'hand over' as a verb) and 'costumer' (which should be 'customer'). The phrase 'this where all yhe transaction begin' contains a typo and a slight awkwardness in expression. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message clearly, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, for example: 'The reception area always have' (should be 'has') and 'the receptionist do not' (should be 'does not'). Additionally, there are tense errors, such as 'the area were always messy' (should be 'is' or 'was' depending on context) and 'this where all yhe transaction begin' (should be 'transactions begin'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy score.
